I was heavily recruited as a young leader with a bright future. They took me out to nice places and attempted to sway me. I was intrigued by the communal aspect of the organization and loved the mission so I decided to interview. The organization does final interviews in a room of 30-40 senior employees who stare at you and have each submitted questions to be asked publicly. It turned out that the communal aspect was more of a cult than I had realized. I was grilled for hours with many "trick" questions. At the end, because I had been heavily recruited, I asked what the salary was because it hadn't come up yet. I was given a death stare by the room. The executive director scolded me publicly saying that that information should have been communicated to me already and I would have to ask someone after the interview. The crazy thing is that I accepted. I was young and driven enough by the mission that I subsided my concerns over this mistreatment and other cult-like red flags. It was a poor decision.
