This was a follow up interview. The first interview, with the general manager, was fine, even good. I went into the second interview feeling pretty good. Things went south pretty quickly. The owner, Christian Skillings, was incredibly rude and weird the entire time. He never smiled, and it seemed like he just absolutely hated me, and was actively trying to cut me down at every opportunity. First off, who has three levels of interviews for an entry level position that is only 8 hours a week? I tried to ask about the expected or even estimated hours per week for the dishwasher position that I was also interviewing for, twice! And he just... wouldn't tell me. I asked about advancement from the host position, and he condescendingly told me that all his servers have 10 years experience, he never promotes from within, and I should try applying at olive garden instead. Yikes! Aka just freely admitting that the turnover rate for all his minimum wage hosts who only get 8 hrs a week with no opportunity for any sort of advancement must be just massive. Everything I said, even when I was answering really simple questions like what days I was available, he weirdly undermined/gaslit me in the most unnerving way. It was super weird and a horrible experience, especially jarring after the completely normal first interview I had with the manager. This is a local, smallish business that advertises a lot on their website that they treat their employees well....I wouldn't fall for that, judging by this bizarre interview. He also asked me really weird "quirky" questions on and off, like asking me to describe my favorite smell or whatever, which is normally annoying but fine, but in this case it was super off-putting because again, he literally never smiled.
