I interviewed for a position at Informatica in 2020. I expected the position would attract numerous candidates in a competitive process. But my background checked all the boxes in terms of duties to be performed and required experience. The process began with a phone interview with the in-house recruiter, followed by interviews with the hiring team. (BTW one of them admitted that the interview just appeared on their schedule so they took the meeting. That didn't feel great ...)
In the end they pursued another candidate. OK, that happens, I get it. But when I asked why, the reason I was given made no sense. Supposedly the preferred candidate had a particular experience I didn't have -- except the experience cited was not part of the job description, and never came up in any of the half dozen interviews. And one skill set which I DO have is quite specialized, was referenced multiple times in the JD, and came up with all members of the hiring team. So apparently I was rejected for lacking an experience they didn't even value enough to include in the job description or actually talk to me about in an interview. Ridiculous.
BTW I've heard multiple times about interviewing at Informatica that candidates who could threaten incumbent employees are shunned. Did that happen to me? I obviously cannot be sure, but looking at the outcome I can't rule it out. Merit didn't seem to matter. Waste of time dealing with Informatica.
