Contact with recruiter followed by on site interview. Very mixed emotions on this. On one hand everyone was pleasant and polite. On the other hand, I felt the process was intentionally and needlessly intense. At some point, if a company is being so hyper-selective, it just isn't worth a candidate's time to bother; we're not talking about getting a seat on a Mission to Mars, this is a company that is a glorified MVC app. Too-intense interviewing is always is awful for the candidate, but often awful for the company too. If they get too selective, they end up draining away their available candidate pool and will have to settle later when they get desperate. In the end I don't feel like they were urgently looking to fill this position and had many candidates, maybe that is the nature of the Austin market. I didn't see that much activity around the office...like most tech companies, Indeed is probably overstaffed already. I would not apply to Indeed again unless I felt they were more inclined to follow through rather than just subject me to a pointlessly intense process. I know this may sound like sour grapes since I did not get an offer, but I felt like the concentration of pressure bordered on unfairness.
