I was found by a recruiter, and received a Teams interview with the hiring manager within a week. The hiring manager was friendly and didn’t ask any hard questions. He almost didn’t ask any questions about my current job, which is my first industry experience in sequencing field. He said I’ll be invited to give a presentation. Yet, he wouldn’t say more about the group in terms of what they do or size of the group. Within a week, I phone interviewed with the HR, who spoke really fast, sounds like she’s in a rush to finish this. Within a week, I was invited to give a presentation via Teams, which had 8 attendants. They were all very friendly, and didn’t ask any hard questions. Questions were all related to my previous jobs, not sequencing related. The recruiter said they planned to have me for the next step, panel interview. However, after a week a silence, the recruiter said they think Im not perfectly aligned to the role.
This is the 2nd time I was invited to give a talk at Illumina, didn’t receive much difficult questions, and being rejected. I simply don’t know what they are looking for.
Counting the odds of receiving offer on this website, 9 out of 45. Maybe the 6 candidates for each openings saying was true. Thinking back the process, maybe they never really interested at me but need candidates to finish the hiring process.
