I got a phone interview with their UX manager first and he also asked me about the jelly bean brain test. He talked about what this role is gonna do - design questions.
The next day after phone interview, I got a design test which in written form. It consists two parts: 1 evaluate a current question type and 2 design a responsive area in a website.

Initially contacted by recruiter, did a take home design challenge, spoke with a senior designer over the phone, onsite interview with 3 interviews (Senior Designer, Product Manager, and SWE) and an informal lunch.
Overall the design problems given weren’t too hard. My main problem with IXL is how little they care about candidates. The team is friendly, but it all seems like a facade. All communication between candidate and company is through a single internal recruiter. None of the interviewers offered other ways to contact them. Anyways when they told me they weren’t going to move forward with an offer, the recruiter didn’t even have the decency to send a personalized email or a phone call. Just a generic automated “no reply” message from greenhouse.
And when you ask for feedback? *cue cricket noises*
Overall, this company left a bad taste in my mouth because you really understand how broken their recruiting process is. I get that people are busy, but if you have somebody get to the FINAL stage and then ghost them afterwards, that’s just unprofessional.

Five step interview process:
1. Initial resume and cover letter
2. Phone interview
3. Design challenge
4. Phone interview #2
5. On-site interview
Everything was really straightforward; the design challenge was one of the better ones I’ve done.
