I had a screening interview with an HR representative in which we discussed my research and consultant background. The representative explained more about the role and company. It was a positive and productive conversation. I then was moved on to their next step in the process: complete their 3 on-line assessments: Hogan Personality Inventory, Hogan Development Survey, Motives, Values, Preferences Inventory. The assessment included items that had nothing to do with my ability to perform the job successfully or my personality. Examples include items regarding my parents' child-rearing skills, my friends' income and their desire to help other people, and my desire to learn to scuba dive. A week later I got the "we don't want you" email. I asked for feedback and they said I did not have enough consulting experience. We had discussed my consulting experience during the initial phone interview, so if that was really the reason then why send me on to those ridiculous assessments? What a waste of my time! I guess the real reason they did not want to hire me is the way I answered their "personality" assessments. I guess I should have more of a desire to scuba dive, or perhaps my friends should make more money.
