After applying, you are invited to complete a written interview and submit a video before speaking with a real person from the company. A little off-putting to want a video recording of the same written feedback, but it was a simple exercise so I decided to continue.
The activity requires you to provide written and verbal feedback on a submission from a graphic designer before sending it off to a client.
After submitting what I thought was a thorough response, I was not invited to move further due to "missing the two key pieces" and that I would not be happy with the position as it requires large attention to small details". LOL, ok sure.
The gag - I only missed one of the mentioned two key details out of the several points in my feedback that went unnoticed.
Dodged a bullet with this one. If you are going to provide such condensing feedback, just make sure you are as attentive to the details as you want your prospective employees to be. And maybe not require a video submission, just bad practice.

Provide written and verbal feedback based on a scenario.
I wasn’t the right person for the job I interviewed for, however what’s compelled me to write this is the projects were to show incredible communication. I found it surprising, and ironic, that every single written exchange or directions were chaotic and confusing and not at all clearly communicated. The directions for a candidate were in desperate need of editing and clarity, which was somewhat bizarre.
The interviewer was very clearly not listening to answers and even moved around with their laptop, at one point moving to a couch to lean back and get more comfortable. Found it odd and disrespectful to the process. It flagged a lack of professionalism that I didn’t know how to interpret initially.
Projects were more time consuming than I think they realize, particularly if you have a candidate who is thorough. I realized this after they had told me I found more issues than I was supposed to, which I find to be telling of quality of work. It makes sense to me when paired with the unprofessional actions in the interview.
After the second project no feedback was given. Projects can be great for both sides, though even a small amount of feedback should be given even if you’re not hiring the person. To me it’s another sign that this would have been a place that doesn’t respect your work or time, and it’s alarming when the expectations do not meet the quality of the existing processes and teams.
As I said, I was not a match for the role and realizing these red flags later I’m grateful they didn’t pursue me further. Worked out for everyone!
