      Entrevista para Management Trainee

      Entrevista

I applied to a listing on an online job board stating that Greenspire was hiring management trainees. I was contacted the next day by e-mail to set up an interview at their offices in Santa Monica, and the entire process involved two interviews: a preliminary screening-type interview and a more in-depth interview with upper management. The second interview was fairly easy and conversational. I'll start with the good impressions: the hiring manager was very friendly. The interview felt less like an interview and more like a conversation where company chemistry is assessed (as interviews should be). The structure of the company was explained and all my questions were answered. Most of the questions asked weren't simple "tell me about a time", but instead questions that tried to peg what kind of person you are, what your motivation is like, etc. It was a comfortable interview experience. For the bad: as another person here has stated, the position advertised as a management trainee did not appear to be what was being hired. The position was a door-to-door sales position with the possibility of moving up if you met certain numbers. I was told that the company was investing in me by having a long period of work before beginning management training, but it seemed that without base pay (all commission) and without paid training, I was not being invested in. The job ad stated that the pay would be $600 weekly during training. Perhaps there was substantial communication error in the process. But it did not appear to be what it appeared to be.

Hello and thank you for your feedback. It sounds like there was a lot of miscommunication in the interview process. The biggest red flag is how many times you refer to our company and positions using the term "sales." Our company doesn't sell anything. We help pair homeowners with programs that can help address their issues with high utility costs. Our reps are also not paid by commission, as we do not sell anything. We appreciate your feedback on the conversational nature of our interview process and will relay this information to the HR team. It seems you are still very confused by the actual positions and the nature of our company's work. We encourage you to reach out to us directly to clarify these issues. You can contact us anytime during business hours at 310-477-7686. We look forward to hearing from you.

Two step interview process. When you go in for the first interview they ask you basic interview questions. If they like you, they ask you to come back for a second interview. During the second interview I was asked if I remember anything that the hiring manager and I discussed.

Applied online, got a call the next day. Interview a few days later. If you pass the interview they ask you to come back for a second interview. However they do not discuss job or compensation in the first interview, even if asked. The second interview is essentially an overview of the job and how the pay structure works. Its practically a pyramid scheme. You get paid practically nothing for the up to 20 days of training, its all commission based, and as you move up you only make more if the people under do well. You essentially start as a trainee, become a trainer within a few weeks, and then have to start training other trainees, and keep the process going, i.e. pyramid. I don't see how they are so highly rated on Glassdoor.
