Whoa. Ok, first of all sorry for the problems that occurred here.
Obviously mis-typing your email address sounds like a silly mistake but nonetheless one that caused you stress and delay. Thanks for keeping at it through that.
To your point about the process: that's a real issue that needs addressing. I totally agree that after just a quick screening call, that take home assignment would be too much work to assign. That's why our normal process is supposed to be that after you speak with a recruiter, you'll have an in-depth, hour long phone interview with one of the senior people in the CS department. This gives both sides a real opportunity to dig in and really get to know each other - experience, motivations, what the role involves, who you'll be working with, etc. Only *after* that should the take home assignment be asked of you and, by then, most candidates have a good understanding of whether this opportunity is worth investing that amount of time in.
Sounds like that didn't happen for some reason in your case. I'll follow up with the recruiting team to see what may have gone wrong. Of course feel free to reach out to them or to me directly if you'd like to discuss this further.
In any event best of luck in your job search and sorry again for the hassle.
Best - Daniel
