You fill out a detailed form to apply. They contact you, in my case nearly a year later, to set up an interview. The process consists of 5 rounds of interviews; HR screening call, TW manager, Senior TW, PM, and finally Head of TW.

HR call Meet the hiring manager Meet the team Cultural interview Ridiculous presentation The sequence of interviews was weird and HR was not even willing to get back to me. The last call was with HR after ages where they rejected over a call, like wow. They don’t even care about anything and anyone’s time.

I believe the process was supposed to be recruiter interview > team interview (2 or more managers) > test > offer. The recruiter, R, was very transparent and I appreciate his honesty about the shockingly low salaries for this position and company. I continued the interview process anyway. The second interview with K was...weird. She was very tight-lipped and didn't seem to like me much off the bat. She also nit picked a minor error in my sample (that I acknowledged) despite not even reviewing my resume website. I appreciate the feedback I got during my rejection although I think it was BS. I'm sure the one mistake was the reason they were looking for, but that might be a good thing considering how low the pay was.

What motivates you? What makes a good technical writer
My experience is similar to the other review posted here from 2020. To apply, I had to write and submit answers to several lengthy questions (in addition to submitting a resume). I also had to provide writing samples, and the company requested a significant amount of detail about each sample. I spent about two days putting together all of this material, proofreading it, and finally submitting it. So I was pretty disgusted to received a canned rejection email three days later from a no-reply. The message contained nothing about what was missing from my experience.
I think it's poor form to ask candidates to invest so much time in an application process and then not provide a response of any substance.
The company's canned email ended with the line "We hope you’ll still consider GitLab in the future" -- yeah, not bloody likely.
