Applications for fall admission are typically due in late fall of the previous calender year (e.g. fall 2010 admissions close in December 2009, but check the department's webpage, as this can change from year-to-year). Candidates are invited to campus in the spring of the year. These students are accepted, but may not yet have a committed source of funding. Students meet with potential advisors (if they were not sponsored by a particular faculty member) or spend most of their time talking with a particular faculty member. There is typically a social event at the end of the day.
