      Entrevista

Do you want to work your full time job and then do another 49 hours work? Well the Gearset interview process is for you! Welcome to 4 stages of interview. No realky, 4 stages and you’ll need to prepare for each stage for 20 hours oh and learn GitHub for basically a CS role. I found the interviews nice at first, then they got crepier as it went on. Basically the final interview was how would you grass on your colleagues if you got this role if they weren’t pulling their weight. Do not, and I repeat do not try the approach of well id advise management as they want you to tell that SOB work! I also know people who’ve worked there and was getting cold feet toward the end of my ordeal as I heard rumours that they make new staff fill out positive glass door reviews and was skeptical but if you really look at them it’s like something from Stepford Wives. Really, for not amazing pay, avoid. Far better companies in Cambridge to work for. The only positive for me was getting a promotion from my own company the day after I heard from these guys ‘we want you’. They also don’t like you asking, “well if you guys are using software to optimise sales force then what happens if they do the same’? They absolutely panic, as they would go out of business within weeks. This company has no future in my honest opinion.

Thanks for taking the time to provide your feedback on our interview process and I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t have a good experience. I appreciate our interview process wasn’t for you, but a couple of things you've said don't tally with how we do things and I’d like to provide a little extra context for anyone reading. Our interview loop consists of 3 stages - a ~15 min telephone call to get to know each other, a 2 hour technical interview to check your skills for the role, and finally a 90 mins final interview to understand if Gearset would be a good fit for you. We split those sessions up at a pace that works for candidates over a few days or weeks, and generally get positive feedback on the structure. We break up the two interviews because we first want to check if somebody could be great at the role, and then want to check if they could be great at the role at Gearset. Lots of people work in different ways and work for different reasons, so that’s the thing we explore in the final stage. The only stage that may require preparation is the technical stage, where we want to try to recreate a day in the life of the role so may ask a marketer to produce a blog post, or a Software Engineer to write some code, or a Customer Support Engineer to learn about some of the tech they’d be supporting such as GitHub. I haven’t looked at all tasks across all roles recently, but our general rule of thumb is absolutely no more than 4 hours should be spent on an interview task. Even four hours is a lot and the feedback from most candidates is that the tasks we set take less time than that. In terms of us soliciting reviews from our team, we've never forced nor even incentivized folks to write reviews about Gearset, infact, this would go against everything I stand for. The amazing reviews we’ve received from our employees are because they genuinely enjoy working here and want to let candidates know the reality of life at Gearset. It’s something I’m proud of, that our employees want to share their experiences, and do regularly on other platforms too including LinkedIn. I’m surprised that you had a nervous response to the question around the future of Gearset and competition. It’s something that we talk about at the company often and we’re confident in our roadmap and the great response that we’re getting from our users. I’d encourage anyone reading that decides to interview to just ask the same question as the reviewer and see what response you get! Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience interviewing with Gearset. I'm sorry to hear that it didn't work out for you and I wish you luck with your promotion at your existing employer.
