      Entrevista

      I was contacted by their HR department, who conducted a phone interview. They asked me to come in for an in-person interview a few days later. The office space is really nice - modern and professional. The employees are less than professional though. The interview was conducted by the head of the department. It felt like it was the first time he was interviewing someone. His questions were unclear and he checked his phone and sent emails during the interview. Based on his conversation, it seemed like he had trouble keeping employees under him (his employees seemed to keep "all of a sudden" quitting). As any job candidate should, I had researched the company and the department. He actually seemed to be taken aback by this and acted weird when I knew certain aspects of the company (everything was public info on the internet...) After the interview, the HR person and company director both just stopped communicating. It's fine if I wasn't the right fit for the company/position (I felt the same way...it wouldn't have worked), but to completely ignore a candidate is just rude and incredibly unprofessional. I am now working for a competitor and am sure I will run into these folks at industry events. They should know better than to treat people like they're disposable, especially in such a small industry. You never know when your professional paths will cross again. I interviewed at a few other similar companies and even though I didn't end up working there, I never left with sour feelings towards them...Gate Gourmet was the only company I felt like this towards. My general impression of the company was that it was really disorganized and their department "heads" were thrown into the positions without much training and/or competence. It seems like it would be a really stressful work environment, not only because of the workload, but more because of the widespread mismanagement within the company.

      All interviews were face to face. I was interviewed by 2 managers. The interview process took for about 4 months.
