      Entrevista para Camp Lead Instructor

Me postulé en línea. El proceso tomó 1 día. Acudí a una entrevista en Galileo Learning (Oakland, CA) en abr 2015

      Entrevista

Takes about two to two and a half hours in lovely downtown Oakland at night. No refreshments. Staff no help at all concerning good place to eat. Like I want to be cruising around there after the commuters have left. Cattle call. The whole group interview starts with putting on tired costumes (New Years Eves hats, cheap Hawaiian leis). Pumped up at beginning with announcement of camps still desperately needing staff. Then a one on one interview. Then a small group interview at which applicants perform lessons they have prepared as well as creating a lesson together. Good way to beef up the camp's repertoire. Then more whole group (yawn). The evening ends with an insult: "Most of you won't get a job, but please tell your friends about us." Now is that a nice way to bid adieu to their candidates as they venture back to the highway? Then the rejection letter with the usual admiration of applicant's education and teaching experience, with ANOTHER insult - a PS suggesting the applicant contact a babysitting website. Then I realized - I was too old for this gig! SO if you are over 40 I would leave this alone. I am over 50 and I was the oldest applicant at the interview, and the rest in their 20's and 30's, a few maybe in their early 40's. The best I can say about my evening at Camp Galileo corporate offices is that I did pick up a few ideas for my day job. I also had the feeling that the 1 on 1 and small group was being recorded/video - as they occupy a good chunk of a building and they are obviously interviewing the masses.

      Preguntas de entrevista [1]

      Pregunta 1

They were all pretty basic, straight forward questions about teaching.

Thank you for your feedback, though we’re very sorry to hear you did not enjoy your interview experience. Candidate care is a top-priority for us, which is why we welcome any and all questions throughout the application/interview process, either during informational phone calls to each applicant invited to in-person interviews, or through our regularly-monitored email account (jobs@galileo-learning.com). We also have a direct phone line, allowing applicants to speak directly to a member of our People Operations team — a great service to candidates and rare during an employment application process. Through these communication channels, we share tips on the best way to travel to our headquarters — a 15 walk from West Oakland BART, or a five minute drive or 15-20 minute walk from eateries in Jack London Square, and at which we have free parking. We would like to directly address your statement regarding using candidate teaching samples for curriculum and/or possible video recording, which is not part of our practice and which would be morally wrong. We DO welcome applicants of all ages and experience levels, and create an in-person interview to loosely replicate a day at camp, with the intention of mutually assessing fit — if a candidate does not enjoy our in-person interview, s/he is not likely to enjoy being on our team. Again, we are sorry to hear you did not enjoy your interview experience. Please know we greatly value every person that takes the time to apply to our program. Please feel free to share any other thoughts you have by emailing outreach@galileo-learning.com. Best wishes, The Galileo Team
