Me postulé en línea. Acudí a una entrevista en GEICO (Fredericksburg, VA) en mar 2013

      Entrevista

Submitted an application and exam online. Received a call back the next day to schedule a brief telephone interview. The phone interview was vey brief an vanilla. The HR rep basically did a brief overview of my resume and then disclosed the low starting salary that is non-negotiable. Rep could not offer me any sort of average in terms of commission or raise amounts which was quite disappointing. Scheduled a day to come in take the pre-employment tests. When I arrived at Geico at 12 Noon there was hardly any parking. This is a big concern for me if I do get an offer because this is a huge issue. It is so bad that people are parking along the sides of the rows that are outlined for typical parking. It was like being at a mall on black Friday, horrible. Once inside I checked in with an HR rep and signed in. The waiting room was filled with young out of college kids eager and excited to began a job that pays well below what you will need to survive in the high priced region, I knew immediately that I was out of place not because of my age (late 20's) but because of my professional demeanor. Me and two other applicants were instructed to complete another 118 question personality test. Then we took a multi-tasking/typing test these tests were not hard but just pay attention to the warm up sessions so you get the hang of it. We then watched a 20 min generic video about how awesome of an employer Geico is... Afterwards we were escorted back to the waiting area where the individual HR reps took us in back. My experience consisted of an basic 'Tell me about a time...' interview with an HR woman who looked like she hated her job and was very unpardonable. I was disturbed by her demeanor because typically HR associates are the energetic ones who pump you up for everything but this woman was not interested in me and seemed like she would rather be somewhere else, this was the first major red flag. She then put me in a room to role play a sales call 4 times. This was hard for me to do, not as an experienced consultative and solutions based professional but because she had zero emotion or interest in speaking with me. To be honest it was very awkward to hear her monotone voice ask me about the imaginary carwash that I was supposed to be selling to her via the phone. If I had the attention of someone who was interested in their job with people skills I'm sure it would have been a more positive experience but it is what it is. After the call she told me to expect to hear back within 24 hours in regards to the next step which would be an interview with a hiring manager which leads me to believe no offer will be extended which is fine since it was very apparent that I was over qualified for this job. I extended my hand to shake as we concluded the interview and she looked at me for a good 10 seconds before reluctantly shaking my hand back. I then walked out of there with an ear to ear smile thinking to myself wow no wonder they are always hiring.
