Recruiter contacted me over LinkedIn. Had a 15 minute video call with very basic questions answered. Next step was a 3 part-assessment: a 20 minute IQ test, a 20-30 minute one-way video interview, and a 1 - 1.25 hour technical exercise. The job was for one very niche BI tool. But they didn’t have an assessment or technical interview based on that, so they just set me up with an interview and test for Power BI instead. You can literally pass the assessments and not know how to do the main job the client is hiring them for. The technical exercise also has to be done in one sitting with no stops or breaks, so you can spend a lot of time redoing it due to interruptions or issues. I will acknowledge I could’ve done better on the technical portion but I want to reiterate I was being evaluated on a tool THAT WAS NOT EVEN RELEVANT TO THE ROLE, nor did I ever claim to be an expert in it. It’s bad enough to do a one-way video interview, which makes it very easy to discriminate - it didn’t even do the job of evaluating the right candidate for this particular role.
