      Entrevista

      I was contacted by a recruiter for the listed position with First South. I eventually made it to the final round where I revealed my salary expectations. I stated that I was willing to work with the company if the salary was low but the benefits were exceptional. Likewise, if they would give me immediate PTO for a trip I was taking in a couple of months (they have an accrual policy). They informed me that should be fine because First South wants their employees to have a "good work-life balance". The next day, the recruiter informed me that they wanted to offer me the role. I was happy to receive an offer; however, First South completely lowballed me on the salary. It was way below my expectations, and not only that, but the benefits left little to be desired. The recruiter agreed that I deserved more (the work was a lot for a one-person team) and that First South informed his company that they budgeted a lot more for this position. He believed they were only doing this to pay the least amount of money to him. I told him to get back to me to see if they could offer more. He eventually called me back the next day with a negative answer, stating that they felt the low-end salary was what I was worth. I was willing to accept so I could leave my current job, but I didn't want to make a hasty decision mostly when the optics did not seem right. I asked him to see if he could at least get clarity about a 30/60/90 plan to help my salary needs; as well as, a confirmation on receiving immediate PTO since they put in my offer letter the accrual policy that I didn't want. He called back the next day, which was a Thursday, informing me that they were not answering his phone calls or emails. I told him that they may still be trying to finalize a response. I told him to wait till Friday afternoon, and if there is no answer, I will send an email myself. I told him that I was going to accept but I must have this in writing. By Friday afternoon, there was no response. I proceeded to send an email accepting the position but that I wanted clarity on the PTO. I sent in the offer letter anyway, even though I still didn't have an answer. The following Monday arrived and the recruiter told me to wait to put in a two-week notice until he has a confirmation from them. By 10 a.m. that day, he called back to inform me that they withdrew the offer in 24 hours --- an exploding offer. Neither he nor I knew anything about it. It wasn't even written in the offer letter that this was supposed to be accepted within 24 hours. They informed him that since I didn't answer in time, they gave the role to someone who applied online and he had accepted. My assumption is they offered him more since he wasn't represented by a recruiter. First South played a game of gross corporate politics and it showed in their unprofessionalism when they refused to negotiate, to communicate, and they reneged on their word. I asked the recruiter if there was anything he and his project manager missed and he said no. He said that they never answered their calls or emails, and they said they contact them about three times a day. At the end of all of this, I am happy that I didn't accept because if they can do this beforehand, imagine what they can do as a full-fledged employee. I have a close friend who knows the CEO and said that they are as corporate as it gets so the idea that they would care for my needs is a fantasy. If you are looking to work for them or any company like them, please be skeptical. You don't want to lose your sanity because of a few thousand dollars more.
