      Entrevista

      After a brief phone interview, I was asked to fill out a fairly time consuming writing sample demonstrating my capability to perform intelligence analysis. After spending hours making sure that the writing sample represented my best work, I was very disappointed to find out in the interview that the people interviewing me appeared to not have even seen the sample, which aptly demonstrated the capabilities needed to perform admirably in the internship. Further, despite having had access to my resume for weeks, the individuals seemed to have little to no idea what my background was and kept asking questions about experiences that they should have already been aware I did not have. One of the individuals interviewing me came across as downright hostile, at one point explicitly stating quite rudely that he did not see how I had any research or analysis experience from my resume, which he had barely scanned. There was obviously a discrepancy between how the person collecting resumes viewed the internship and how the interview panel viewed the position, which resulted in my excellent experiences being completely ignored in favor of questions about experiences that they should have already known I didn't have based upon my resume. It was understandable why I might not be a good fit for the job, but what was not understandable was the insulting and insensitive manner in which my background and accomplishments were belittled during the interview or why they were interviewing me at all if my background did not match what they were looking for.

      We're sorry to hear you had a negative experience with us. We do appreciate the time you took to complete our writing exercise, and can assure you that it was fully reviewed. We use both the writing sample and the interview to make a hiring determination, but we evaluate the writing sample separately so that it is scored in the most impartial manner possible. Regarding your resume, one of our preferred qualifications is some type of experience—academic, professional, personal, etc.—that demonstrates willingness and ability to perform research and critical thinking. Therefore, during our interview process, we try to surface relevant experiences that may not be listed. Thank you for your interest in FireEye and we wish you the best!
