A recruiter reached out to me about a position as my background was a strong fit with the right amount of experience. A 30 minute video call was setup, which went very well. Soon after I was scheduled for a 1 hour with the hiring manager. Great interview. Hit every need, had a terrific discussion. A week or so went by, a holiday, then an email stating they're still interviewing but I was they were "very much" interested in me and they'll be in touch soon. Two more weeks went by and then an automated email saying others matched the job better and I'm not moving forward.
I mean, that's fine - but why dangle the carrot and then send me an automated email?
Companies need to respect people for their time and interest and at least send a personal note with some reason of a rejection. Of course, if it's ageism or sexism, which I'm finding a lot lately, then the automated email plays it safe.
