      Entrevista para Project Manager

Me postulé a través de un reclutador. El proceso tomó 2 semanas. Acudí a una entrevista en European Medical Journal (Londres, Inglaterra) en mar 2024

      Entrevista

At every stage of this application something was off. First part was a 30-min screening interview with the internal recruiter which was straightforward (albeit he was 5 minutes late and then had to ask me his final questions via email because he had to abruptly end the interview because got kicked out of the room he was using). I was selected for the next interview which I was told would be a “competency” interview with the hiring managers in person but for which I received 2 conflicting emails about the time and date which they apologised for after I pointed this out. On the day I was told to give my name at Reception but when I got there reception told me they hadn’t been told anything and 5 minutes into what should have been the start time was only when someone finally came down for me. And as the “Competency” interview progressed I realised this was not competency-based at all but was culture-based. In a competency interview you expect questions such as “Can you tell me about a time you did A? “What would you do in scenario B?” “Do you have experience in C?” The questions I was asked were “What are your 3 biggest weaknesses?” “What are 3 words someone would use to describe you?” “Tell me about your CV” “Why do you want to leave your current job?” “What do you like to do in your personal life?” “Are you interviewing anywhere else?” I was informed it would be the third interview that would be culture-based but it just appeared the hiring managers were using the second interview as a “vibe check” to bypass that. Something made clear when one of the managers said “no experience is really needed as everything can be taught on the job”, and after seeing the testimonials of former employees you can get an idea of the “vibe” they are looking for. But to top it all off I was informed I was unsuccessful not once but twice by email and then a phone call with one of the internal recruiters on the phone not realising I had already been informed of the decision by her colleague, but that she would give me my feedback within 24hrs. 1 week later I still have nothing. So my feedback is there is a definite communication issue in the recruiting team which made the process disorderly, and the hiring managers appear to have their own prerogative on how they’ll conduct the interview in-contrast to the process candidates are told to prepare on. Something future candidates should be prepared for.

Thank you for your feedback. We take all feedback seriously and will review as a team. As the person responsible for the first round being late to the interview is absolutely unacceptable, and for this I apologise profusely, no excuses for this. The rest, as I said, I will review with my team as we seek to continuously improve our communication throughout the process. Regards interviews in general - there are 'typical' interviews, and there are 'culture' interviews, of which we do neither, we don't claim to be like any other company or follow a textbook. We appreciate this doesn't suit everyone, and if 'vibe' was a word communicated I'll make sure this is removed from any of our communications in future. We look for people who ideally have the skills and values that we believe makes them a 'Gold Medal Winner'. Skills ARE important, but can be trained. Ones values are their values, EMJ have ours, we don't claim if yours are different they are wrong, we just seek alignment so that both the individual and EMJ are a match, helping us all be better versions of ourselves. We hope you find that match and wish you all the best with your future search. If you would like any further information please contact me direct. Joe.morrison@emjreviews.com

Me postulé en línea. El proceso tomó 1 semana. Acudí a una entrevista en European Medical Journal (Londres, Inglaterra) en ene 2024

      Entrevista

1st stage w/ Senior Recruiter - easy and straightforward, including the usual screening questions. The recruiter was lovely, friendly and very responsive throughout the process. Not all recruiters are like that so kudos to them. 2nd stage w/ Hiring Managers (Client Engagement Director and Head of Client Services) - average difficulty, focusing on experience, capabilities and situational questions. Both managers were friendly and approachable, making the interview feel more like a chat rather than a presentation of your skills and expertise. Did not make it to the 3rd and final stage that included an interview with the CEO focusing on values. The feedback that was provided was rather underwhelming and confusing - it felt like they were almost clutching at straws. I was not presented with any points to show some sort of inexperience or luck of skills/attributes. I was told that the managers would have liked to have heard more about my long-term ambitions and how I would like to develop, as well as talk about the impact of my experience and what I've learnt along the way. Quite tricky as almost none of the questions were directly related to that, although I did mention where I would like to be in 1-2 years and the impact my previous role had on the company's processes and client satisfaction.

Tell us a bit more about yourself. Elaborate on the examples that you presented. Talk about times that you had to work with crossfuntional teams, ensure that processes were followed, how comfortable you are in leading discussions with C-suite individuals, what approaches have you followed to boost team morale. Is there anything you would like to improve in regards to your skills? If you were the CEO of the company you work for, what would you change to improve the challenges the company/departments face? How do you find job hunting and the market? Tell us something about you that is not included in the CV.

Three stage interview process but only got to round 2. First was with recruiter which was straight forward and simple. Second stage was with two managers, also very simple and easy. Standard interview questions including competency questions.
