The recruiter was nice and chatty, but the interaction felt geared toward getting me to disclose my expected salary. I shared a range of $50–60k and noticed a pause that made me wonder if the actual salary was higher. The recruiter mentioned that I was free to apply elsewhere, which set a dismissive tone.
The video interview with the hiring manager reinforced that impression. He opened by saying, “I don’t want to take up too much of your time,” repeated it twice, and ended with “good luck.” He asked approximately seven questions within the first 15 minutes, then allowed time for a few of mine. The role itself was never clearly explained.
Throughout the interview, he showed little interest in understanding my experience or the context behind my responses. The interaction felt impersonal as he appeared to care more about writing than listening, as if completing a requirement rather than evaluating a candidate.
As a Hispanic woman, I did not feel I had a genuine opportunity to join the team. At best, if you apply for this data integrity team and are a minority, treat the interview as practice rather than a serious opportunity.
