Entrevista
5 stages of interview for an already filled position. I met with them many time it was a long process to be told the interview was mostly a formality since the position had been filled by a prior applicant.
At the conclusion of the interview Epic Games recruiter had requested I'd complete an art test. They had sent out the art test with little notice and had anticipated I, as a candidate with over 5 years experience, would work 40 hours for free. I was interested at the prospect of working on Fortnite and at having the opportunity of working with Unreal Engine so I was willing to complete this assignment. It took me a bit over 40 hours to complete, because of the short amount of time I was given I had to work in the evenings after my job and spend my weekends on this. I delivered the assignment only to be rejected. Of course, no compensation was provided and those 40 hours are lost forever. At the very least I was hoping they could provide feedback as to why the assignment's results were rejected, despite promising me several times they'd get back to me they never have. I am incredibly disappointed with Epic Games and would discourage anyone else from applying. This practice of art assignments, wherein, the candidate does not get compensated nor even provided with feedback on how to improve, is incredibly exploitive and should be removed. For a company of this size I would have imagined they'd do better then this. I know my skillset and I know I can do the work. I have years of experience behind my back, many references and a large portfolio with many AAA shipped titles. There is no reason to force me to go through this. I'd be more understanding if this type of art assignment was handed to a recent graduate or to someone with barely any experience in the industry. As mentioned, its very exploitative, Epic, do better!
