Me postulé a través de un reclutador. Acudí a una entrevista en DRW (Chicago, IL) en nov 2025

      Entrevista

I was contacted by a DRW internal recruiter. Initially started out as an interview for a VERY Senior Trade Support Engineer role. Seems like they lost someone and needed to fill a role badly. Phone call with the HR person went well, then an interview with the hiring manager. It was mostly talking about experience and learning about the team and role. She was somewhat preoccupied and seemed distracted. Ok interview, but I did not move forward at all for that role and was told they needed someone very senior (probably from a very comparable trading firm). Fast forward a few months, I saw the same team or org still had an opening. I reached out to the DRW recruiter and mentioned this. He reached out internally and there was mutual interest for me. I get set up with 3 interviews and do well in all of them and did like the folks I met. DRW recruiter had told me that hiring me from my location would be fine. We do this all a bit before the holidays, I am told hearing back about the final decision might be delayed. Fast forward to mid January, no word. I follow up and they say sorry, the team liked you, but we cannot hire you from the location you are in. All this after months and months of waiting, interviewing, etc. And after being told hiring me from where I was located would be fine. I should've never even interviewed if that was going to be the case. Zero respect for my time and energy put in to this, but hey, what can you do? Seeing how they moved with this process, I am glad it did not work out.

      Pregunta 1

Generic linux trade support questions like how do you find the process that is generating a large log file? Or how do you check file partitions and what is taking up space? Stuff on tcpdump, mdump, basics on testing network connectivity. All stuff you can literally type in to Gemini or Claude and don't need to memorize any longer. I do appreciate them testing this knowledge, but I would sure hope they have gotten up to speed with the times and technology. I have seen firms require you know how to use AI well.

Me postulé en línea. Acudí a una entrevista en DRW (Singapur) en jul 2025

      Entrevista

I applied for a technical role at DRW’s Singapore office and went through a drawn-out interview process lasting over a month. Despite promptly completing all assigned tasks and rounds, every stage of the process was delayed by a week or more — with one round alone taking nearly a month to schedule. While I appreciated the opportunity to interview, I was ultimately rejected with a generic response stating that other candidates were a better fit, specifically due to lack of prior trading experience — something that was never flagged as a concern earlier in the process. What’s most frustrating is that I answered all technical questions successfully and met all their expectations, yet the final decision seemed entirely based on a specific background they were looking for. If trading experience was non-negotiable, that should have been communicated upfront instead of investing so much time from both sides. This experience suggests a disconnect between HR and the hiring team — the latter seemed narrowly focused on specific industry exposure, while HR moved forward with candidates without aligning on key requirements. Overall, the process felt uncoordinated and inconsiderate of candidate time. I would advise DRW to streamline their hiring process, communicate requirements more clearly, and respect candidates by avoiding unnecessarily prolonged timelines.
