Entrevista para Staff Software Engineer/Architect, Data Platform/Search

      22 feb 2024
      Candidato de entrevista anónimo
      Austin, TX
      Sin ofertas
      Experiencia neutra
      Entrevista difícil

      Solicitud

Me postulé a través de un reclutador. El proceso tomó 3 semanas. Acudí a una entrevista en DISCO (Austin, TX) en feb 2024

      Entrevista

A recruiter found me on LinkedIn. I sent my resume. Recruiter said Disco didn't see enough search experience on my resume. I sent a rebuttal to the recruiter. I got an interview request with the hiring manager. Interview with hiring manager went great. Felt very conversational. Culture at Disco seemed like a great fit for me. Next step was an interview where I discussed a previous big data project I led. I was 50/50 on how that went. Hiring manager had told me to message him if I don't get feedback from that interview in a few business days. A week later I message hiring manager on LinkedIn to let him know I never got feedback. He says he'll ping the appropriate people. Another week goes by. Crickets. Ghosted. I messaged hiring manager again that I never got feedback. Hours later I finally got feedback from one of the interviewers via the recruiter that found me. Hiring manager messages me that he's on it more hours later, I message him back explaining I already got useful feedback. Feedback included references to tools I did not mention. I used internal company documents from previous job that I wrote, thinking no one would mind, but that was a strike against me. The questions I answered "I don't remember" to were interpreted as "I didn't understand." When I said decisions were made arbitrarily and not revisited, that was again interpreted as "I didn't understand." Lesson learned: Next time I present a previous project to a potential employer I'm going to make a sales pitch more than a retrospective. Seems obvious in hindsight.
