I am a SME with extensive MiFID knowledge and project delivery expertise within FS. I was called to interview for a role supporting MiFID regulatory programme reporting and data operations transaction reporting. I was called back to attended a second and final within a few days. Despite a flawless performance and positive feedback I was not offered the role. I learned subsequently that the role had been offered to a friend of the manager. Clearly a case of cronyism as the role was obviously already earmarked but they had to be seen to be following due process.
I wasted time and money attending two interviews for a job that I was never going to get regardless of how well qualified. When it comes to contract recruitment there seems to be no accountability or governance to support the fair recruitment practice. Interviewing manages are usually the same demographic – white male, and clearly prefer to work with those with who they identify within their own socio-economic group.

Overall a positive interview experience. The recruiter was professional and on time, and clearly explained the company and the role. The questions were relevant and related to my background, which made the discussion smooth. Some expectations could have been clarified better, but the exchange was respectful and constructive. Good experience overall.
