Chatted with the recruiter, who was lovely. Then I talked to the hiring manager. I found him to be completely devoid of any empathy and made no attempt to get to know me as an individual. While I understand the need to ascertain my technical acumen and SE skills, I do require a manager with an EQ. The longer we talked, the more I got a sense that he was not someone I would vibe well with. The most egregious faux pas was when he asked me who my managers were at my last job, which I found to be a bit of a transgression. It made me feel judged poorly, as I don't think that is his business, and it made me feel like he was going to communicate with them through back channels.
