      It is long, delayed, and very energy-consuming. Every interview except for the initial phone screen lasted 1 hour or longer, and they expect you to tell 20 stories or examples every interview. There is a requirement of a remote assignment which consists of 2 projects. And they led you on for another two interviews just to reject you by scheduling a call on the phone?! What happened to the emails?

      I recently went through an interview process that lasted almost two months and involved five separate interviews and two assignments. To say the process was unnecessarily long is an understatement. Here’s a detailed account of my experience: Lack of Transparency: The organization did not provide any explanation or outline of what each interview would consist of. This left me feeling unprepared and anxious before each step, as I had no idea what to expect. Excessive Length: Each interview was an hour and a half long. For a candidate, this duration is quite dreadful, especially when repeated five times. It’s hard to maintain enthusiasm and energy through such lengthy sessions. Bizarre Requirements: One of the interviews included a segment where I had to answer various questions while being recorded. These recordings were intended to be shown to students. This felt highly unusual and uncomfortable, especially for a Program Manager role. Inappropriate for the Role: For a Program Manager position, having so many interview steps is excessive. This kind of marathon process is more fitting for high-level executive roles or highly specialized positions, not for a mid-level management role. Poor Communication: After completing all the interviews, the organization ghosted me for almost two weeks. This lack of communication is unprofessional and disrespectful to candidates who invest significant time and effort into the process. Rejection Handling: When they finally did get back to me, the HR scheduled a call just to give me a rejection over the phone. This felt like an unnecessary step and added insult to injury after such a drawn-out process. In conclusion, the entire interview process was a total waste of time. The organization’s approach is inefficient, lacks transparency, and is highly disrespectful to candidates. I would advise anyone considering applying here to beware of the potential for a long, drawn-out, and ultimately unsatisfying experience.

We want to strike a balance in our interview process that is transparent, efficient, and respectful of candidates. Your feedback highlights several areas where we fell short of these goals: Transparency: We regret not providing clear outlines for each interview stage. We usually share the next steps at the end of our phone screen conversation. Moving forward, we will ensure that candidates are continually updated about the next steps throughout the entire process. Length: Multiple lengthy interviews can be exhausting, so we are improving our interview process to streamline it and make it more efficient and considerate of candidates' time. We have used your feedback to implement more efficient interview processes for our recent position searches, and they have been working well. Requirements: We apologize for the discomfort caused by the recording segment. We involve students in our hiring process, and given their schedules with schools and extracurriculars, we ask candidates if they can record their responses to student questions so we can share them with a panel of our students who can meet when they're available. We will reevaluate how we can get our students' voices involved in the process while keeping our candidates' comfort in mind. Communication: It is unacceptable that there was a significant delay in our communication after the interviews. With our new team, we've discussed ways to ensure all candidates hear back from our team promptly once decisions are made, and we're excited to put them into practice with the new positions we've launched. Handling: We are sorry that the rejection call added to your frustration. We often call candidates who have gone through the process as a courtesy. Moving forward, we will ask candidates about their communication preferences and provide updates via that preference. We deeply regret that your experience with us was not positive and appreciate your candidness in highlighting these issues. Your feedback has been beneficial in moving us forward, and we hope you will consider future opportunities with us. Thank you again for your feedback and for considering our organization. -BTNY

      They attempted to lay out the process at the beginning, which I appreciated, but the steps were confusing. I applied online and received an email to schedule a 20-minute phone call with a staff member as the first step in the 'selection process'. That same day I got an invitation to complete a remote assignment that must be returned within 3 days of receiving it. After that assignment was reviewed, I got invited to a second interview with my would-be supervisor and another staff member. This interview was scheduled for two hours, but it was really like an hour and some change and then they tell you to check your email for ANOTHER remote assignment, except this time you have to send it back with 30 minutes. (This assignment had two parts and would definitely take more than 30 minutes to do well, also not sure what's the point of the 30-minute time limit.) Overall, I felt that it was an unfair amount of original work to require for an interview for a manager role.
