Me postulé en línea. El proceso tomó 2 meses. Acudí a una entrevista en BetterUp (San Francisco, CA) en feb 2022

      Entrevista

I began the process mid December, and had my last interview Feb 8. Process was a call with a recruiter, then hiring manager, then onsite meetings with 4 people on the team, assessment, then executive interview. The beginning of the process was strong, I mentioned I was interviewing with several companies and was looking to make a decision by the end of January. The recruiter said that was in line with what the process would be, and shouldn't take much longer than that. I did really well with the Hiring Manager, he said I was exactly what they were looking for. The on site meetings also had the same feedback, I had real team alignment with them and felt like I was already part of the team. I passed the assessment. Then finally, the last interview didn't go as well. The interviewer said she didn't even know she had something scheduled with me, and looked like she had rushed to be on screen. Generally, I didn't think she was very present and didn't really give me a feeling that I had connected with her or what she was asking. Her questions didn't leave me time to ask questions, so I said I would follow up via email. I never was able to email her directly because I was blocked from doing so by the recruitment team, which is understandable but also confusing. A week or so passed, during which time the recruiter didn't get back to me. I followed up, and she said we could speak about the progress. Of course, she said that the focus of the role had changed, and it didn't seem like I had enough experience. I explained that I had spent a considerable amount of time roadmapping new platforms and onboarding employees, and fine-tuning integrations. The recruiter's response was along the lines of "aww shucks I wish we had known", when it was clearly on my resume. I felt like I wasn't given any chance to validate that, as they had already hired someone for the position (I had checked online before my last interview). It was clear to me at that point that they had kept me on the backburner in case this other candidate didn't work out, which is any employer's prerogative. However, being that this process required a significant commitment on my end (I don't work remote, and needed to finagle work from home days to attend the zoom interviews), plus the assessment, I would have appreciated some kind of transparency. Even if they had let me know there were other candidates they were considering would have been better. My advice to the BetterUp recruitment team: I think a 2 month process is too long to expect any candidate to wait for a resolution one way or another. Especially in today's hiring market. Also, be clearer about the role at the outset, as I spent a considerable amount of time gearing my experience to the conversations I thought I should be having. If I would have been given more clearer context about the role, I would have put more focus on those aspects of my experience. Also, be clearer if there are other candidates who are at the same stage, or have already been hired. Finding out that a candidate has been hired for the same position as you, before you've finished your last interview is not the best practice for your company. It's borderline disrespectful to my time and energy. Lastly, if you feel like someone is a huge culture add, but maybe not the right fit for a specific role, it's best to end things positively so they might possibly apply for future positions.
