The interview can only really be described as a cry for help. The MD laid out a long list of problems that his company had, including but not limited to email deliverability problems, issues resonating with and growing its audience, increasing the company’s reputation relative to its competitors, and repositioning the company within the e-learning market as CareTutor (rather than as a training-by-DVD company). I should have seen this as a red flag, in hindsight, but have been brought in to turn around the fortunes of companies previously, and through asking questions about each aspect of each issue the MD had highlighted to me, we were able to come up with an action plan there and then. I was given an offer within an hour of completing the pseudo-interview, which sounds great out of context, but once in the role I was not granted any permission to bring the action plan to fruition, instead expected to adhere to a rigid marketing plan that the MD had admitted during the interview process clearly wasn’t working. Effectively the role and my responsibilities within it had been mis-sold to me entirely. To make matters worse worse, the MD would repeatedly berate all of his employees, myself included, for not having been able to turn the tide, despite him having no desire outside of the interview stage to empower his employees by embracing their ideas and expertise. This company should be avoided and its telling that the only review to the contrary of this opinion comes from the mental MD himself.
