It was more of a chat of my experience as opposed to pointed questions. More like what will you do if given the position? What have you done in the past etc

I I recently interviewed for a position at BMO, and unfortunately, the experience was far from positive.
Firstly, the job posting was misleading. The salary range listed was inaccurate, and the team I was told I would be working with was not the actual team for the role. This misrepresentation seems to be a tactic to attract candidates with a certain level of experience while not offering a salary that matches the responsibilities and expertise required.
It became clear that they needed to misrepresent the department because the actual role might not attract the caliber of applicants they desire if they were transparent. This raises concerns about the integrity and transparency of the hiring process.
The recruiter was overly eager, with multiple calls trying to sell the position. This eagerness felt like a red flag. Despite these issues, I proceeded with the interview process, hoping to gain more accurate information from the team members themselves rather than the recruiter.
In conclusion, the experience was disappointing. It's crucial for potential candidates to be aware that the job description might not reflect the actual position accurately. Transparency and honesty in job postings are essential, and I hope BMO improves in this regard.
I had 2 interviews, the people seemed nice enough but I don't think the culture would have been fit for me. The first person didn't appear to be someone who interviewed people very much - appeared to be an immature manager. The second, more senior manager seemed to be clued in but I ended the interview because it was clear that I wasn't going to be interested in the role. I would say, at least it was more like a conversation, not a interrogation-style interview, so they get points for that.
I've worked in both banking and investment management and banks tend to be very 'unsophisticated'. You want to work somewhere with top talent where professionalism is a focus.

It was more of a conversation - no stock interview questions.

The interview was pretty casual and it was a few rounds of interviews, with a technical test. It was with several members of the team to get to know the colleagues.

Applies online. Was referred by former colleague. HR emailed to set up preliminary phone interview. Then phone interview with hiring manager. Finally on site interviews with manager's boss, manager's peers and position peers one at a time over about 4 hours. Decision communicated within a week. Total process from application to offer took about 6 weeks.
