I interviewed at BMC Software in Ireland for a Solutions Engineer position after being contacted on LinkedIn. From the beginning, my salary expectations were clearly discussed and accepted, and the role matched my experience and interests closely. The process involved eight interviews where I met almost the entire team, all of whom were professional and left me with a great impression of the company culture. I was enthusiastic about the opportunity and looking forward to the offer. When the offer finally came, it was €15,000 below my stated expectations. Despite having aligned on compensation from the start, leadership suddenly decided that Ireland was too expensive compared to other European locations. They withdrew the offer entirely and chose to close the position in Ireland, reopening it in Spain to reduce costs. This indicated a complete lack of market research and internal alignment before opening the role. While the team itself was fantastic, the way leadership handled the process was extremely disappointing and unprofessional — wasting time for both sides and retracting an offer based on information that should have been evaluated upfront.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. SOOO UNPROFESSIONAL. I did a 4 round interview process for a Solutions Engineering role. I got the verbal offer like 3 weeks ago, and negotiated more. They came back to me with a higher number that I was happy with but said it would take 1 week for approval and to have the written offer for a May 1st or May 8th start. I waited the week and the recruiter says for some reason ”she didn’t think I would accept the offer” when that was not the case, so she paused the process. Now I’ve been essentially ghosted and it sucks. You put in all this work, get a verbal offer and boom get ghosted.
