For context, at this point in time, it has been 8 months since being laid off. I have had like 50 rounds of interviews at the time, all of which have been extremely smooth…up until this one. I applied for an HR role and a week later received a call from an unknown number, which I never pick up. I was left a voicemail from a recruiter, Warren Teng, asking if I had time to speak that day. I was frazzled because of the extremely short notice so I emailed them to set up a time the following day. Interview day comes around and it’s a phone screen. The conversation starts off well, typical “tell me about yourself”, they then proceed to ask me how much I was looking to make, I then asked for the salary range provided for this role (it’s California law to have this on your job posting), he then refuses to tell me and pressures me to answer first, to then be shocked when i tell him MY value and what I expect..After feeling extremely uncomfortable with this whole back and forth, he then asks me about my old company, extremely detailed non relevant questions as if he was more interested in my old company than me. To top of this horrific call, he then proceeds to offer me unsolicited advice about my already tough job searching process and told me about his 20 years of recruiting experience. This was the most intrusive, uncomfortable call I have ever experienced. After the call, I emailed declining to proceed with the process, I wish the best for whoever ended up taking this role.
