      Entrevista

I have two big problems with Axiom and their interview process. The first concerns their expectations in regards to working in-person during COVID, and the second concerns the massive amount of uncompensated work that you have to do in order to prepare for the lengthy interview process (three rounds). First, the COVID issue. I interviewed remotely in July 2020 and basically got a different answer in each interview round as to whether I would be teaching remotely or in-person at one of their learning centers. It went from everything being remote (which was what I wanted and was comfortable with), to everything being in-person in a matter of weeks. What I find most insidious about this is that all of the upper-level personnel and HR people were working completely remotely (conducting interviews AND eventual on-boarding remotely), but they expected instructors to go into their centers without regular tests, and certainly without being 6 feet from the students we were meant to instruct. They did say that desks were 6 feet apart, there would be temperature checks, and everyone was required to wear masks, but there was no plan for testing as far as I was told, which is egregious when you’re talking about a population of people (kids and young adults) who are overwhelmingly asymptomatic. To me, this is reckless, irresponsible, and shows a complete lack of respect for the instructors. This was the main reason I rejected the offer. The other problem I have with Axiom relates to the interview process. There were three rounds: initial phone screen, then two video interviews. For the first video interview I had to prepare and teach two 10-minute lessons. For the second video interview, I had to prepare and teach two 15-minute lessons. All of this time and work was uncompensated. Perhaps I am naive and this is the norm, but I spent a lot of time preparing and practicing this material, and there was never any sign that I would be compensated for that time, even retroactively after I was offered the job. One last note: when I emailed the HR rep with whom I had been corresponding throughout the interview process to let him know that I ultimately wouldn’t be accepting the job, I didn’t mention any of these issues and instead simply told him that I was declining the job because I wouldn’t be living in the area much longer (which is also true). My email never got a response or acknowledgement from the HR rep, which just feels unprofessional and feeds into my perception of the company as lacking basic respect for their applicants.

3 steps interview, one screening, one where you present a lesson, and a final interview. Everyone was friendly and the interviews lasted around an hour each ( except for the first quick screening)

Me postulé en línea. El proceso tomó 3 semanas. Acudí a una entrevista en Axiom Learning

      Entrevista

There were several rounds to the interview process. First, there was an introductory call that lasted about 10-15 minutes, where I talked about my experience and interest in the position. Then there was the first-round interview, where I had to prepare two lessons for two different grade levels and content areas. I delivered one of these lessons remotely to my interviewer, who role-played as a student. My interviewer also asked me about my experience and interest in the position, working style, and some questions where I had to reflect on the lesson that I had just delivered. The second-round interview was very similar to the first; I prepared two more lessons for another two different grade levels and content areas. I delivered one of these to my interviewer, and they asked me more detailed and in-depth questions around my experience, interest, working style, and the lesson I had just delivered. I believe I made it to the final round, where I had to write a sample report to parents detailing the progress, goals, and areas of improvement of a student (based on the performance of my interviewer role-playing as a student in the lesson I gave). I also completed a survey about my comfort with different subject areas, etc. I did not receive an offer. My review would not be negative if Axiom Learning had had the courtesy to tell me that instead of ghost me. I made four lesson plans, a sample report, and was interviewed for a total of over two hours. That was a lot of my time and energy over the course of several weeks, during a pandemic, which has been a difficult period for everyone trying to find a job. That behavior, after them being so encouraging throughout the interview process, turned me off from this company permanently.
