      Initial interview was with hiring manager talking about operations including basic Terraform, and cloud operations. There was only brief mentions of kubernetes. Second interview was typical software engineering interview. Everything is Python.

      tl;dr: Recruiters don't communicate frequently, the recruiting process is way too slow for a company of this size, company strung me along for three months before rejecting me for a reason they were aware of at the beginning of the process. ---- I had a highly disappointing experience with the recruiting process at this company. From the outset, communication from the recruiters was inconsistent and infrequent, which led to an unnecessarily drawn-out process that lasted over three months. For a company of this size, I expected a more efficient and respectful approach. After applying with a referral, I was contacted by a recruiter a week later, and we scheduled a standard introductory meeting with the hiring manager. The interview itself went as expected. However, weeks passed before I was scheduled for interviews with the team I'd potentially be working with. Surprisingly, none of the interviews were conducted with individuals of equal or greater seniority than the position I was applying for. To make matters worse, two out of four scheduled interviewers didn't show up, and there was no prompt response from the recruiter to address this. What was most frustrating, though, was the ultimate outcome. Despite the fact that the team I would be joining was fully remote and the recruiter had assured me multiple times that my remote location wouldn’t be an issue, the company decided, after months of stringing me along, that they preferred someone local to the Chicago office. This was a fact they were aware of from the very beginning, making their final decision baffling and a clear sign of poor organization and communication. Overall, the experience reflected poorly on the company’s internal processes and left me with serious concerns about how they handle recruitment and communication with candidates.
