The process began with a standard HR phone interview, which went smoothly. I was told the next step would be a one-on-one conversation with the hiring manager. However, I logged in to find myself in a panel interview with five people instead—no prior notice. The hiring manager appeared disengaged, a few panelists remained on mute the entire time, and some didn’t turn their cameras on. There was very little effort to create a welcoming atmosphere.
I was initially told the role would be hybrid with three days in the office, but during the interview, this unexpectedly changed to five days in-office. I was also asked about toolsets and experience not listed in the job description. To top it off, I was told that my biggest asset—after a decade-long career—was simply living near one of their office locations. That comment felt dismissive and undermining.
I never received any follow-up or formal rejection. A week later, I saw the same role reposted on LinkedIn. In hindsight, perhaps that was for the best.
