TL;DR: Best interview experience I've ever had. Structured, friendly, transparent, to the point, gives a great sense of company's culture and what your potential colleagues are like.
Generally speaking, hiring in tech is broken: round after round, over the phone, online tech screens, panels, pair programming, whiteboarding, you name it; you've no idea where you stand at any given moment, and how many hoops are in store for you. Well, from my experience, Auth0 have figured it all out.
I applied online, and had a quick phone call with a recruiter soon after. They outlined all the steps, described each of them, named people I'll speak with, and answered all my early questions.
Next, I had a video call with my potential manager, and we talked for 30+ minutes about the role, the company, my experience, and more broadly about values, what they're looking for and what I'm looking for. The conversation was friendly, professional, and open, I enjoyed it a lot.
Next, I had a chance to have another video call with my potential colleagues, and it was a blast. We discussed tech a bit more in depth, challenges and specifics of the day-to-day job. I can't stress this enough: at no point did it feel like an interview/interrogation/exam, but rather a friendly yet professional chat to measure our mutual fit.
Then, I got an invite to a Slack channel with some of my potential team members, and got an assignment, mocking to the extent possible a real, day-to-day task I'd had to perform. I had to build an app using Auth0 tech, and I was given a list of things they will be evaluating throughout the process (including communication, questions, ability to work independently, etc), so I didn't have to guess what's expected. I had some real fun while building the app and enjoyed the whole process a lot.
Finally, I had a video call with one of the senior managers, and again it was a very professional, friendly and open conversation about day-to-day, challenges, all things Auth0, and the position specifically. Two days later I received and accepted an offer.
Throughout the process, I received feedback every step of the way; at all times I knew exactly where I stand, what comes next, what to expect, and what is expected from me. I also had a chance to use some of the company's tech in a fun yet practical way.
