Me postulé en línea. El proceso tomó 2 meses. Acudí a una entrevista en Atlassian en ago 2014

      Entrevista

The worst interview process I have even been through. Seriously. And so at odds with their proclaimed value of "Don't ____ the customer" (can't say the value on Glassdoor, go check Atlassian's website) - because they definitely did in my case. Being an Atlassian fanboy (to the point I got many teams to switch to Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket and Hipchat in my consulting work), I was incredibly motivated to apply for a position there - I mean, as a PM, what could be better than working on a product that you love using? I went through two different interview processes for two different positions with them and while making it quite far into their recruitement funnel, in both cases, they never did get back to me - just silence and unanswered email after I had invested so much time and energy. Disrespect at its best. Get your expectations right if you ever apply for a PM position with them. So here is how it all went - there were two parts to madness as you will see, so read along. Part 1: I applied for a PM position at the Sydney HQ on July 23rd, 2014. Didn't hear from them for a whole month, yes a whole month. And then on August 20th, I received an email from a recruiter inviting me to proceed to the next stage of the process. "Yay!" I thought, it's all good, I'm in the funnel now, whatever happens, I will have a correspondent I can communicate with. For this second stage of the interview, I was asked to produce an essay in 48 hours, that included 10 questions on Product Management. For instance, "3. How do you earn the respect of the engineering team?" - yes, most of their questions were straight out from Ken Northon's essay, "How to hire Product Managers"....Anyway, I spent 10 hours of the next 48 hours writing this essay, applying myself and putting in everything I have. I sent it back before the deadline. And then...no news from them for 2 whole weeks - I actually had to write the recruiter to ask what was happening. 48 hours to produce a really long essay and can't bother to get back to you in two weeks. That said a lot. Apparently, there had been a "couple of changes announced internally here that [had] put a hold on applications temporarily.". From this point onwards, it was back-and-forth with the recruiter, me waiting for the next step of the interview process (i.e. video interview) or otherwise, a clear "no". Neither came. Ever. The last email I got from the recruiter was dated Oct. 7, where he told me he would be trying "to find other teams interest :)". Never heard from him afterwards. Conclusion: no answer, no rejection email, no feedback, nothing. Just disrespect and waste of time. Part 2: Not deterred by this bad first experience and still very much looking to work for Atlassian, I spotted a few weeks later on their job board that they had a new Product Manager opening, this time in San Francisco, and focused on Atlassian's marketing websites. I applied again. They came back to me 2-3 weeks later (already an improvement over my first experience) and the recruiter seemed a lot more reactive and professional than the first one. She set up a call with a senior executive, who briefed me on the position and associated challenges. So far, so good. After this preliminary call, the recruiter set another two other calls: one with a senior developer, one with a designer. The call with the senior developer went really well, a real discussion about their technology, challenges and processes. It felt like a true peer conversation. The call with the designer was a bit disappointing at the start, as she asked me (scripted) questions about my past experience or motivations to work at Atlassian that I had already answered both in my cover letter as well as in my first call with the senior executive. Very little preparation on her part and waste of our conversation time. The second part was much better as we engaged in real dialogue, like in my previous call with the senior developer. All in all, both calls went really well - at least I thought so - and we were supposed to schedule a further call with the designer as we didn't have enough time (again, partly due to the fact she hadn't prep on my profile) on our first call to cover everything, including my questions I reached out to the recruiter to set up this further call, she told me she would arrange it. And that's when the events took an "Atlassian" turn again...namely, I never heard from them ever again. I wrote them 3 times afterwards, trying to set said call, but to no avail. The Atlassian silence had struck again. Once again: no answer, no rejection email, no feedback, nothing. Just disrespect and waste of time. They say that the way a company treats applicants says a lot about how it treats its employees - if that's true, then I'm really glad I'm not working for them.

It was very slick, they have a well defined process which HR will talk you through. it will vary team to team a bit but they do explain things. Found I needed to ask some clarification questions though as there is a fair bit of complexity around their remuneration

Interview process was standard, but they ended up going with an internal candidate, per expectation. I had three interviews, with the hiring manager attending each. It was a little disappointing to find out they had just been going through the motions of interviewing, when they were already planning to hire internally.

Screen with the recruiter, then interviews with peer product managers and a culture fit interview. Recruiter checked in after every round except the last one. They didn't communicate a decision explicitly, but sent me a survey about my experience, at which point I figured they weren't going to hire me.
