I applied for the position and promptly received an automated message from the company’s AI assistant to schedule an interview for the following day. The process was seamless and offered several flexible time slots to accommodate my schedule. On the day of the interview, I spoke with the hiring manager, and we had a great conversation about the role, the organization’s values and culture, and the importance they place on providing a positive experience for candidates and new hires. We discussed the next steps, and I was informed that the company was testing new AI features in their applicant tracking system (ATS). I was assured I would receive communication regarding whether I was selected to move forward or not. After the interview, I followed up with the hiring manager twice via email and was told each time that I would receive an automated update, similar to the initial scheduling message. Meanwhile, I checked my application status weekly on the company’s careers website, which continued to show my application as “in process.” However, in the seventh week, I saw that my application status had changed to “inactive,” and I never received any communication—neither from the ATS nor from the hiring manager—about the outcome. I expected this due to the time that had passed since my phone interview, but was waiting on official communication. While I understand not being selected for the role, the complete lack of communication, even in the form of an automated message, does not reflect the values or the commitment to a positive candidate experience that were conveyed to me during the interview process. Maybe it was just an oversight, but I wanted to share my experience.
