I applied for the position through a posting on indeed.com in August 2014. I was quickly contacted by Alarm.com's internal recruitment department and was scheduled for a phone interview. Upon completion of the phone interview, I was again contacted by the recruitment department and told I was to have a phone interview with their manager/director of eLearining. That interview went very well, with the the words "wow" and "great" being used a lot. I was contacted a few days later and told that for "phase 3" of the process I was given two assignments I had to complete. One was to review some of their existing courseware and give feedback on it and another was to create a Powerpoint presentation on how to create "successful" eLearning. I was given a couple days to complete these tasks, which was easier said than done considering I'm currently employed full-time as an eLearning professional. (I've never appreciated having to do free work for a perspective employer to begin with, but that's beyond the scope of this review.) I completed the assignments a day ahead of schedule and submitted them and was told I would hear back. I never did. That's the part of the interview process with Alarm.com that irked me. If I make it through three rounds of interviews and don't get the job, have the professional courtesy to tell me so. If my resume was crap and didn't make it past the recruitment phase, OK I can see that, but I had the professional courtesy to re-arrange my work schedule around these successive rounds of interviews, as well as provide them with a free consultation on the quality of their courseware. I would appreciate the same professionalism returned in kind.
