I was contacted in the morning for an interview scheduled for the same day after lunch, which was a very short notice. Despite the rush, I made the necessary arrangements and confirmed my availability. The interview, however, started quite late. Initially, I was informed it would be conducted via Zoom, but I later received a Google Meet link instead this lack of coordination was already a red flag.
When the interview finally began, I was informed that the position was actually for conveyancing, although I had clearly applied for a litigation role. I clarified this, and the interviewer responded by saying there was no point in proceeding if I was only interested in litigation. Since I had already prepared and made time for the session, I requested to continue but the overall tone and reaction felt cold and dismissive. No apology was offered for the confusion or the time wasted.
This was, without a doubt, one of the worst interview experiences I’ve had. There was no apology for the confusion about the job role, the short notice, or the dismissive attitude. I left the session feeling disappointed and disrespected. In hindsight, I’m glad I didn’t get the job, the interview process itself revealed a lot about the internal culture. I hope the firm seriously reflects on how it engages with junior candidates in the future.
This was easily one of the most disappointing interview experiences I’ve encountered. The poor communication and lack of professionalism reflected badly on the firm. I also spoke with another candidate who nearly went through the same experience, which only confirmed my concerns.
