Within a week of applying, I was emailed to go in for an interview with the President of AP Tech and two other managers. The President asked me where I was from. I told them "Iran." The interview was ended shortly after I told them I was originally from Iran (30 years ago moved to the U.S.). The President even asked me why I moved to California, which I found to be more offensive than probing my origins. I felt my national origin was weighed in the hiring decision making. After the interview, I sent them an email asking them about the reason for asking me where I was from. The President wrote back and stated that for the manager position they ask those type of questions.
