      Entrevista para Network Engineer

      Entrevista

I was recruited by HR via LinkedIn and applied online. I was contacted for an interview within the same week. The only problem was that I was out of town and requested an initial phone interview but was required to drive several hours for a face to face. Was given 1 hour to complete a 50 question exam. The exam was straight forward- Explain differences between OSPF and EIGRP, well known ports, boot process for voip, how would you troubleshoot if no wireless signal, what process will you use to locate certain switchport for a tech in the field. After doing well on the exam. I had a literal five minute interview with HR and that was it and decline letter the next day. I felt like they never intended to hire me and should never have asked me to travel for a f2f without a phone screen. It was a good experience just for learning purposes but they did not seem to have a multicultural environment and I believe that played a role in passing despite a good technical interview and professional one on one interview. I say that because the HR Exec was very impersonal and withdrawn with a very hurried demeanor, which seem unusual and unsettling to me.

The most difficult questions were the four essay style questions because of the limited time mostly and being a little nervous.

We appreciate you driving out to complete the technical evaluation. Unfortunately we have not yet found an effective way of administering the evaluation remotely so on-site is our only option. Your candidacy initially is graded by your technical evaluation and from there you are able to do phone and video interviews. If you received a letter the following day, it means your technical evaluation score was not deemed high enough to continue.

      Entrevista

I applied on Cisco's website and after one day got notice for interview with Adcap in Atlanta. Before interview, they require you to study some materials about networking., and you can choose either onsite or video. My interview was in Atlanta, and all what I did was to take a paper test of all knowledge they require.

      Entrevista

I had interviewed with this company last year and had a bad experience. I responded to a posting for Adcap stating that they needed immediate entry level hires as all the hires they had last quarter had been promoted. They had several group interviews that you could select and stated that there would be a written test on technical network knowledge. Between the time of the interview I was bombarded with emails to sign up for a refresher course in preparation for the exam which costs $99 per month so it is not cheap. It made me wonder if Adcap was in some way affiliated or getting commissions from the course provider. On the day of the group interview I was shocked to see at least 100 applicants show up for the interview. Brad who I believe was the Director of HR and who was the one who sent all the emails encouraging applicants to sign up for the course went over what to expect in terms of salary (which was low) and the interview process. The whole thing took up the whole day and when I left I felt it was a waste of my day and like another reviewer stated, this seemed like a sales gimmick to sell online courses rather than actual employment. I didn't hear back, but a few months later I got emails from Adcap stating that they needed new hires as all the hires they hired last time had been promoted and that they would have several group interviews available on select dates. Really? I didn't respond this time and added it to my spam list.

Thanks for your feedback; I am not sure what gives you the impression that we don't hire people from our interview process..or promote from within. One of our Jr. Engineers has received 8 raises in two years and has been promoted multiple times. Regarding providing different links to youtube (free), online preparations (optional), and very detailed directions what to study (including advice to use google)... I'm sorry you felt like us giving you direction how to be successful with our interview process was a burden. We believe in over-communicating versus keeping candidates in the dark. That is different than most companies who won't reach out to you with any additional information so I can see how it might come across odd. Sounds like you've marked as SPAM and won't have to worry about that in the future. I'm sorry we made such an impact into your inbox that you felt the need to post about it a year later. Best of luck in your continued career search.
