Video interview with easy brief questions and then 2 mock lessons that you have to teach. The first lesson is based off of teaching a 6 year old and the second an 11 year old student.

The first step is filling out an application. Once the system checks your application you are then prompted to set up an interview. The interview consist of two 10 minute demo lessons (same lesson for ages 6 and 11) to an interviewer pretending to be a child and an actual interview. You are asked to give information about your teaching qualifications, educational background, ESL experience, what you currently know about Alo7, and why you chose to apply for Alo7. Additionally, the interviewer will then ask that you to either sing a song or act like your favorite animal. I elected to sing a song and my interviewer seemed very annoyed that I would not behave like an animal. In fact when I said “I’ll just sing a song” she said several times “or you could just act like your favorite animal.” I don’t have a favorite animal and I don’t enjoy acting like animals so I kindly informed her I would be singing a short song. I sang happy birthday very quickly as I could tell she wasn’t interested and clearly agitated that I did not accept her suggestion to act like an animal. Next we moved forward to the demo lesson portion of the interview. During the demo you will be expected to have knowledge of navigating their platform while you teach (which is very confusing and you will do a lot of clicking so practice before hand) and this is all done through a Zoom account by sharing your screen. My interviewer interrupted my 1st demo lesson several times telling me that we only had 10 minutes to complete each demo so I needed to move forward quickly. I asked if she wanted to move on to the 2nd demo but she declined and rushed me instead. She was very rude and did not offer any helpful or beneficial feedback the entire time. It was evident that she mainly just wanted to get through the interview/demo as quickly as possible. She didn’t even offer a very convincing act that she was pretending to be 6 or 11 years old. She simply acted like an annoyed adult who wasn’t in the mood to do an interview. After rushing me through my demos she informed me she felt I did a great job; however, I was taking too much time. The interviewer then proceeded to question my previous ESL experience with another company. Her questions were not to gain additional information on my qualifications, her questions were simply to gain negative information about the company to use for gossiping. She actually asked about specific information from things she has heard. To be honest I found the entire process highly unprofessional and aggravating because the interviewer was definitely more interested in gossiping with me than interviewing me for a job. The most disheartening aspect of the whole ordeal was that all interviews/demos are sent to Shanghai to be reviewed by the Alo7 partner schools and this is how the decision to offer you a contract is made. The schools review your interview and decide if they want to book you. By shining a negative light on my demo/interview the interviewer basically set me up to fail. My interview/demo was not a fair depiction of my teaching skills or ESL knowledge base. Please heed my warning if you schedule an interview and Andrea is your interviewer switch your time immediately to get someone else. She was horrible. There are other interviewers and I’ve heard people have good experiences with them. My interviewer was just bad but I don’t think the company is bad so my review on the interview process should not be a negative reflection of the overall company. However, the company should choose who they select to be the face of the company and represent them more carefully.

The Interview process was easy and straightforward. You chat with a recruitment employee and they ask you basic questions. I was asked to either imitate an animal or sing a children's song. The majority of the meeting was a review of the company procedures. Short interview process, but long hiring process which speaks to their thoroughness. The company knows what they are doing.
