      Entrevista

Overall, a patronizing and unprofessional experience. *Interrupted early on because somebody had to handle cash in the tiny office area. *Manager, Ed, sidetracked upon his own responsibilities and logistics/supply-side problems more than actually discussing this position and pertinent details you’d expect in an interview, as about YOUR position and their expectations of you, working environment, and so forth. *For some reason, seemed to be somehow under the impression that I hadn’t gathered, as from the description, that this was a physically demanding position (I previously worked for UPS; I am very familiar with hard menial labor); one of the reasons I was very interested in this position, in fact (I legitimately enjoy and thrive on physical work; in addition to being naturally inclined to day-night reversal schedule). *Mentioned “no weird hair [colors]” (I don’t dye my hair). *Emphasized that 3 absences within 6 months equals “job abandonment” and how that was a clear “indication you don’t want a job.” (Why? I don’t know. But OK. Did not clarify whether that was excused or unexcused, FYI.) *That there’s no phones on the floor, confiscated except for on breaks (I find it interesting that is a presumed issue, to the point of actual confiscation, with an applicant possessing prior employment history and with a declared graduation year of 2007; but fair enough, I suppose). *Acted somewhat bewildered I’d thought to bring a print of my resume and references, and prepared to take notes… (I truly am at a loss, here.) Some banter between manager and the other interviewer, Cindy, present about “just like [name redacted] we used to have,” when I unfortunately had to out myself as FTM (HRT 10 years; I have been unable to legally change my name/gender so have no choice but to out myself; I otherwise “pass” invisibly). Ultimately informed he would still be interviewing (knew right then it was no), but to call back. I decided to check up in person instead 4/14 (within the stated 14 days of consideration period as on the description footnote) and was brusquely informed by the checkout area there were two interviews they were going to conduct, and we’d know a couple days from then; call back in a couple days (again). Emailed the typical canned rejection 4/17 instead. The position is still posted on the jobs.99only site (and various boards), open. (It had been posted and open since 3/1 prior to my applying 3/29. Safe to presume there is not terribly much interest in a 2/3am—11am shift in a predominantly age 55+ retirement territory, in this market). I possess directly relevant work history (experience with loading and unloading of freight feeder trailers, hand truck and pallet jack, and customer interaction), nothing criminal on my record at all; clean MVR and everything. BUT… I am FTM… so beware if you are LGBTQIA, in a way you cannot be closeted, and think to apply to the 99 (‘seems’ to be yet another false EEO). On the phone, to schedule this interview, it had been: “I need this position filled, want to get you right in.” Called to schedule interview 4/1, interview 4/2. Pity. I’ve never been late or missed a day’s work I’ve been blessed enough to be afforded. What every employer claims to most desire, in just that. Meanwhile employers everywhere are all claiming, ‘nobody wants to work anymore…’ and how ‘desperate’ they are… evidently not the 99. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
