We are seeking a retail assistant to join our busy team at the Fishermen’s Mission Charity shop in Helston on a part time basis. (Minimum of 14 hours per month)
This is an extremely successful ‘community hub’ charity shop on two floors.
Main Duties:
Making sure the shop runs smoothly on a Saturday, which is one of our busiest days. If time allows some sorting of donations.
Saturday is one of the busiest days for our Posh Room, so the need to be patient and helpful is very important, we like this to be a special experience for our customers.
To do Open and Close of the till system, and ability to do end of day, (training provided).
Confident in recruiting Gift Aid donors and understanding of how the system works.
Ensuring all donations are immediately removed from the shop floor to relevant place, and all exits and shop floor space are donation free.
Additional duties:

Replenish stock in all areas of the shop if needed.
Work closely with the managers to ensure shop floor is always tidy and in the correct order. Will be trained in Gift Aid procedures but would be helpful to have knowledge of how gift aid helps to raise extra funds.
Working within safety regulations, and ensuring the volunteers are safe in their environment, and working to the same processes.
Able to work well under pressure, and on own initiative, have good attention to detail, and able to identify high end goods, and be able to know how to get the best deal for the shop.
Ability to follow and act on the tasks listed in the daily job list, including cleaning, stock replenishment and continuation with any sorting etc that the Managers have left instructions for.
Take responsibility for the shop in the absence of the Manager, covering for leave and sickness when required.
Essential skills required:
Experience of sorting and pricing items with an excellent knowledge of clothing and accessory designers, Bric a Brac makes and book authors.
Good IT skills. Experienced in using Epos Till (or similar).
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Ability to work on own initiative.
Excellent people skills, ability to work with people of all ages and abilities. Good sense of humour.
Ability to work as part of a team, keen to learn new things. Happy to get hands dirty.
Desirable:
Experience of working in a retail environment, preferably a charity shop or similar.
An empathy with the charitable sector.
Terms and Conditions
Based: At our Charity Shop in Helston
Hourly rate of pay £15.08 per hour
Probationary period: 6 months.
Holiday: 25 days annual leave plus public holidays (pro rata for part time post)
