Job Description – Pharmacy Technician: Retail Setting
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our pharmacy team. In this role, you will work closely with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to ensure efficient medication dispensing, patient support, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will have technical proficiency in pharmacy software, communication skills, and a strong commitment to maintaining ethical standards in all tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Dispense and package medications accurately under the supervision of the Pharmacists on staff.
- Manage physical inventories of medications, ensuring proper stock levels.
Patient & Customer Interaction:
- Communicate effectively with patients and their representatives regarding medications and pharmacy services.
- Assist in resolving patient complaints and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
Technological Proficiency:
- Utilize pharmacy software to manage patient profiles and ensure accurate medication dispensing.
- Operate the Point of Sale system for in-store transactions.
- Use shipping software to complete orders as needed with minimal supervision.
- Utilize site-specific automation at various Health Mart locations.
Training & Education:
- Participate in continuing education and in-service programs to stay current with job responsibilities and certification requirements.
Regulatory Compliance & Reporting:
- Report incidents, suspicious activities, and unethical behavior to the Pharmacist in Charge or member of the Management Team.
- Review and stay up to date with pharmacy policies, procedures, and industry regulations.
- Ensure full compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer groups.
- Assist in audits and surveys by authorized inspection agencies.
Other Duties:
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Pharmacists.
Qualifications:
- Pharmacy technician certification – preferred.
Experience & Skills:
- Proficient in pharmacy software, Point of Sale systems, and shipping software.
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact professionally with patients and colleagues.
- Ability to manage inventories and participate in audits.
Other:
- Strong attention to detail and ethical work practices.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Capable of performing physical tasks related to medication management and inventory control.
Work Environment:
This role will require the technician to work across various Health Mart locations and operate pharmacy automation systems specific to each site.

Required Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
· Previous experience in a pharmacy, retail, or customer service setting
· Previous experience as a pharmacy technician
· National Certification from an accredited pharmacy technician certification program approved by specific state regulations (e.g. ExCPT, PTCB, etc.)
