General Software operates a general store for embedded firmware, the operating system software that goes into compact electronics. The company supplies basic input/output system (BIOS) software for embedded microprocessors using Intel's x86 architecture, the chip design at the heart of the original IBM PC. Its StrongFrame Technology allows for creating multiple firmware cores for applications in embedded, server, and targeted PC markets. General Software agreed to be acquired by fellow firmware specialist Phoenix Technologies in 2008.
