Caveat emptor! To aid in your vigilance, there's C.A.R.S. Protection Plus. The company sells limited extended warranties on used cars through registered auto dealers in more than a dozen states. It offers a variety of coverage plans ranging from three months to four years. C.A.R.S. Protection Plus was founded in 1998 and hailed as one of Entrepreneur magazine's top 100 fast-growing small businesses in 2003. It ran into legal trouble in 2004 when Pennsylvania's attorney general's office filed suit against the company for failing to honor warranties and for misrepresenting important terms of its warranty products.
