Panelshop Supervisor

KwaZulu-Natal

The Panelshop Supervisor is responsible for effectively planning and allocating work to technicians and artisans, ensuring that all vehicle repairs are completed within prescribed timeframes and manufacturer standards. This role involves monitoring Work in Progress (WIP), coordinating with stores on parts availability, and enforcing workshop discipline, timekeeping, and health and safety compliance. The Panelshop Supervisor also ensures accurate and timely job card management, identifies and reports vehicle abuse, and supports the smooth and efficient daily operations of the workshop.

1. Workshop Operations & Productivity Supervision

  • Ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the Panelshop, including panel beating, boiler making, and spray painting.
  • Plan and allocate daily work to Technicians and Artisans for optimal resource utilisation.
  • Maintain and optimise efficiencies and productivity within the Panelshop.
  • Monitor that all repairs and services are completed within prescribed flat rate hours and OE standards.

2. Quality Control & Standards Compliance

  • Ensure all work meets quality standards set by Original Equipment (OE) manufacturers.
  • Ensure job cards are accurately completed and closed promptly upon job completion.
  • Ensure all open job cards are correctly reflected in WIP and reported to management where discrepancies exist.

3. Work In Progress (WIP) & Workflow Monitoring

  • Monitor and maintain accurate Work In Progress (WIP) reporting.
  • Track job status to ensure timely completion and identify bottlenecks.

4. Costing & Quotation Administration

  • Ensure all quotations are accurately prepared on TMS.
  • Verify correct costing of parts, labour, consumables, and mark-ups.

5. Health, Safety & Housekeeping

  • Ensure housekeeping, safety, and quality are a priority within the Panelshop.
  • Maintain and enforce compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies.

6. Parts & Resource Coordination

  • Liaise daily with stores to confirm parts availability.
  • Proactively address delays due to parts shortages or backorders to minimise downtime.

7. People Supervision & Discipline

  • Oversee timekeeping, attendance, and adherence to working hours.
  • Enforce discipline and maintain a professional work environment.
  • Identify and report misuse or abuse of workshop resources, equipment, or time.

8. Administration & Reporting

  • Ensure accurate workshop administration and reporting.
  • Document and report operational issues or irregularities to management in the prescribed format.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12
  • Trade Test in the appropriate field is advantageous
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (level 2)
  • 3+ years’ experience within a supervisory role within a Panelshop environment
  • Experience on heavy duty trucks is advantageous
